This is the English translation of the original Vietnamese-language book entitled Định Hình Văn Hóa Việt by author Lạp Chúc Nguyễn Huy, former Professor of the Faculty of Letters, Saigon University, and Cao Đài University in Tây Ninh in South Vietnam before April 30, 1975. In Canada, he has worked as a Researcher of the Anthropology Department, Laval University, Quebec, Canada.
This translated book by Vinh-The Lam, published in 2022 by Nhân Ảnh Publishing House in California, US, comprising 363 pages, is currently available at price of $32.78 USD (Paperback).

SYNOPSIS
Characterizing the Vietnamese culture is the presentation of the tangible and intangible traditional cultural characteristics from the origin to the present in order to help the readers, especially the young people, to identify the Vietnamese culture. The culture of the Hùng Vương era was characterized by the following specific writings: Skirts, Chopsticks, Stone Dog, Betel and Areca. In the period of independence, Vietnam began to enter the Far Eastern cultural house. During this period, the cultural centre of the countryside was the community hall (Đình) and the pagoda characterized by Village Meal, the “Nghê”, while the national cultural centre was the capital city of Thăng Long characterized by the following specific writings: Tết, Tết Pole, Tết Meal, Ancestral Altar, Ancestral Worshipping. Huế is the symbol of the summit of the traditional culture reflected by the following specific writings: Educational Philosophy of the Nguyễn Emperors, Royal Meal, Origin of The Traditional Robe (Áo Dài), The Palm-leafed Conic Hat (Nón Lá), The Culture in The Traditional House, and Cây Kiểng (Vietnamese Bonsai).
